The top of the dipstick (the plastic part submerged in the oil ) broke off when I was taking it out. Help.?

When the dipstick came out , it didnt have that plastic bit on top of it. Its either down in the pipe, or has fallen down into the sump. I can get a new dipstick , but would that small piece, approx. about 1 inch long, do any damage ?
