What happens to a water filter if you run hot water through it?

I was filling a jug of water and left the water stream going slowly while i went to do other things when i came back i notice that instead of turning the cold water on i had turn the hot water on. Now is there anything wrong with the water filter? Is it damaged? I'm using a PUR sink mounted water filter. I looked up what would happen if you where to run hot water through and all it said was that it would decrease the effectiveness of the filter. Should I replace the filter?
