Why do aliens abduct people?

They don't- think about it, if creatures intelligent enough to master intergalactic space-travel managed to get to earth, WHY would they spend all their time writing in corn and abducting hicks? But i suppose if they were to abduct humans it would be to study their anatomy or something....(sigh)
