How long should you put off education?

Ok so I got out of my parents house at 18 cause i had a party addiction and much more stress including overcoming abuse, and handling getting beatin the **** out on a daily basis, as a result i put off school for two years until now im 20 and Ive decided im going to be a doctor, while the abuse has stopped I still got my self a bad reputation with drug use.(keep in mind I never used until i was constantly accused of it) Now i have to listen once again to the constant 'stay off drugs' and 'you need to always stay home' while this is driving me crazy cause its really difficult to isolate yourself from the outside world while maintaining a devotion to your studies. I could leave the house and work as an emt while gaining my independence and slowing progressing to my goal of med school, or stay at home and risk flunking out another semester
