Why was Israel created?

The Russians and Europeans hated and persecuted the Jews as well. The European nations would have willingly turned a blind eye to the Holocaust, had the Nazi's not invaded the rest of Europe. Israel is the historic and traditional homeland of the Jewish people, they have a legitimate claim to that territory. The British set them up in Israel in modern times.
