Why would college lecturers want their students to know that they come back after Xmas with hangovers?

Particularly why would this be said to a quiet introverted student with no friends whom one of the lecturers has flirted with and I guess now led on if one of their colleagues is making this statement in a hint hint fashion to the introvert student. It is not very nice right and quite an insult in many senses.
